Winnipeg has the world's longest skating trail.

The trail, whose central point is The Forks, measures 8.54 kilometres and includes two rivers -- the Red and the Assiniboine.

Ottawa's more famous Rideau Canal skating trail measures 7.8 km.

The record will be verified by Guinness World Record authorities next month. The process usually take four to six weeks.
