Oliver Christmas Update
Oliver is absolutely beside himself, just waiting on Christmas. He obsesses over the presents under the tree, and diligently marks the days off on his calendar. He is a very generous child and really doesn't understand why we don't just buy huge gifts for everyone. We have filled boxes with non-perishables for Christmas hampers and have included teachers and babysitters on the list.
Our holiday festivities include hosting a Christmas Eve pancake breakfast for the neighborhood kids and a December 30 dinner party with some of our favorite Winnipeg couples. Our friend, Sandy Altner, is moving to Florida in January, and she is joining us for dinner during the holidays. We are also taking Sarah (one of Oliver's best friends) with us to Munschapalooza, the Robert Munsch play for kids, and Marcelo and Oliver are taking Dave and Jeff to a hockey game. In addition, we will play outside and build forts and probably skate at least once.
Oliver has a school project due soon where he captures the holiday memories from Marcelo and me, and then has to write about his own. When I wrote mine for him, I realized how consistent they were from year to year - we always seemed to do the same things, and kids need that predictability. We are working hard to create a similar holiday rhythm for Oliver, beginning with biscuits and tomato gravy on Christmas morning:-)
Oliver visited the pediatician this week. He is 45 inches tall (still 3 inches too short for many Disney rides) and weighs 45 pounds. Dr. Lipnowski said he was square.
An Oliverism: "One, Three, Five, Seven, who do we appreciate?"
When I explained that it should be even numbers rather than odd, he thought about it and decided that made more sense.
