Superhero Day

August 9, 2005; The activity calendar for Daycare said that today was "Superhero Day," so like the good parents that we are, we borrowed a Spiderman costume from a neighbor so Oliver would be a proper Superhero. (This was after many discussions about how we could turn either his Hobbit or Harry Potter costume into "Super Hobbit" or "Super HP.")

Oliver liked the borrowed costume and was eager to wear it to school, but upon arrival, learned that it was Superhero Day for preschoolers, not the School Age group that he spends the day with. He was MORTIFIED. Completely embarrassed. Marcelo spent quite a while trying to get Oliver into the school, and when I talked to Oliver on the phone, he was crying and very upset. He has a tough enough time with the older kids - they can be quite intimidating.

My instinct was to jump in the car and drive across town and rescue him from his persecutors, but the real Superhero of the Day, Marcelo, was able to convince Oliver that the best course of action was to buck up and get in there with the other kids.

Did I mention that it was exactly ten years ago today that my Superhero proposed to me? He is the best partner and dad in the world.
