Britney and Oliver After Sunday Lunch

We were very lucky to be able to have lunch with our old friend and Oliver's first Winnipeg babysitter, Britney Fache. Britney lives with her mom, Judy, in Wildwood Park and will be a senior at Vincent Massey this year.

We moved to Winnipeg on October 22, 2000 and Britney first sat for Oliver six days later on Amy's birthday. She sat for Oliver on many occasions during our time in Wildwood.

We had a great lunch of salmon, shrimp, a potato galette, salad, fruit and Britney brought some wonderful muffins. It was so nice to be able to catch up and hear what Britney has been doing; she brought lots of photos and a sample of some really neat jewelry she is making. Oliver really enjoyed seeing Britney and smothered her in kisses.

No, Not Minaki

Oliver and Marcelo visited the zoo on Saturday. This is Deborah, a 36 year old polar bear at the Winnipeg Zoo. She was enjoying a swim, but is really at her best in the winter!

Nice Hat

We found this old polaroid in the kitchen junk drawer and were amazed at how much everything has changed in the last decade. At the time of this photo, we were not yet married and were still living in Chicago. Since then, we have had Oliver and lived in three other major North American cities!

I so totally remember this night - our friend Rachel had just moved to Chicago and we were out celebrating Sherad's 30th birthday. I also remember this hat - Suzi gave it to me because she had several and thought this one would look good on me. Which it did. The hat is still around, Oliver plays with it occasionally and Seamus likes to chew on the bow.

Mr. Independent

Last week in Minaki, Oliver and two other 4-year olds were swinging in the hammock.

Lindsay (Andrew Cunningham's daughter) said, "When I grow up, I want 2 boys, 2 girls and a mommy and a daddy."

Nicholas (Don and Lene's son) said, "When I grow up, I want six kids."

Oliver said, "When I grow up, I want to live alone."

Take your Stuffed Animal to School Day

Snowflake got a ride to school in Oliver's Basket for a take your stuffed animal to school day. Snowflake will enjoy an afternoon picnic as part of the big day.

Folklorama

Folklorama is a two-week long event held in Winnipeg where local groups host pavilions to celebrate their heritage. Oliver very badly wanted to go to the Russian pavilion, along with hundreds of others. He hated the food, but enjoyed the dancing and the costumes.

Mike and Christie were celebrating their engagement, and Kevin and Lisa rented Joe's for a great night out!

We thought things were tough in the bay, but the wind was quite strong on our way to Lisa and Kevin's - Darren Barber passed us in a sailboat going the opposite direction!
